The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has said that Space Science and Technology holds the key to discovery and solutions to environmental problems confronting the world.
Dr. Onu, who said this on Tuesday when he received a delegation of Nigerian Union of Planetary and Radio Sciences led by its President, Emeritus Professor Dagogo Fubara added that the ministry will continue with research work on space science and technology to boost national security, artificial intelligence, agriculture and communication.
The Minister warned against neglecting space and environmental science, adding that it was the knowledge of these that enabled colonialisation of Africa in the 18th century with all its consequences.
Dr. Onu said Nigeria must be prepared to forestall future colonialisation by harnessing the potentials of Space research and other scientific endeavors.
According to a statement signed by Edet E. Etuk, deputy director press in the ministry, Dr Onu further stated that the National Space Research and Development Agency(NARSDA), of the ministry is assiduously working to assist Nigeria reap the benefits of Space Science for the best interest of the nation.
The President of the Nigerian Union of Planetary and Radio Science, Professor Dagogo Fubara said the union will collaborate with the ministry in the area deploying science and technology to enhance national security and stability of the environment.
He said the Union had been availing the ministry within its mine of knowledge in various fields of Space Science to enable Nigeria overcome its various challenges in environments, agriculture, health etc.
