FG distributes relief materials to Kebbi flood victims

Federal Government has commenced the distribution of relief materials to the affected 2018 flood victims in Kebbi State.
The ceremony which was performed by the Kebbi State Governor, Senator Atiku Abubakar Bagudu said that about 149 trucks of fertilizer and agricultural inputs will be distributed to the 11,345 victims of 2018 flood in Kebbi.
Bagudu, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the National Food Security Council, said that the distribution was part of the initiative of the council through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
“It is a very important day for us here in Kebbi. The support is for the farmers who had lost their crops in the 2018 flood. The Federal Government in his wisdom created the council with aim at ensuring the sufficiency and security of our food in this country, he added.
He further explained that the Federal Government has approved N23 billion for victims of the flood across the affected states.
Bagudu added that each of the victims will get nine bags of fertilizer, chemicals, chemical spraying machine and two bags of improved seeds, while called on the NGOs, security agencies and journalists to monitor the distribution.
In his response, the representative of the DG NEMA and also the Head of Account Unit, NEMA incharge of Sokoto Operations Office, Abubakar Yusuf, said that the government would distribute 149 trucks of fertilizer to the 2018 flood victims in eight local government areas of the state.
He said that the commission had enumerated about 11,541 hectares affected by the flood in the eight local government areas of the state, with 11,345 affected victims.
The affected Local Government areas are Bunza jega, Shanga,Kalgo,Birnin Kebbi, Dandi, Gwandu and Aliero local governments.
