FG commends South-South region contractors on quality roads projects

The Federal Government has commended contractors handling road projects in the South South region for doing a good and quality job.
The Minister of State I Power, Works and Housing,Mustapha Baba Shehuri expressed satisfaction on the quality of road construction and rehabilitation under the present administration since inception three years ago. He added that contractors are now fully back to sites with attendant effects on rejuvenating the economy and fostering human/capital development.
Shehuri noted that in tackling infrastructural deficits across the country, there is need for alternative source of funding beside the usual annual budgetary allocations, adding that government is using the SUKUK funding source and Private Public Partnership (PPP) to bridge infrastructural deficits in the country.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Principal Information Officer, Olatunji John for: Director, Information stated that the Minister said this in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state during an official working tour to the south south geopolitical zone of the country with some journalists to inspect ongoing projects being embarked upon by the ministry in the power, works and housing sectors.
Earlier in his tour, the Minister had inspected the dualization of Lokoja – Benin roads, Section II: Okene – Auchi, Section III: Auchi – Ehor, Section IV: Ehor – Benin City, Edo state.
He also visited the ongoing rehabilitation 85 kilometres length of Agbor – Ugo – Sakpoba – Ogharefe road in Delta state.
He expressed satisfaction in the level and quality of work being carried out especially in Bayelsa state inspite of the difficult terrain. He visited Yenegwe – Okaki – Kolo road, construction of Yenegwe road junction – Kolo – Otuoke – Bayelsa Palms.
While in Rivers State, the Federal Controller of Works, Engr Fadire briefed the Minister on the progress work on the rehabilitation of Enugu – Port Harcourt, Aba – Port Harcourt dual carriageway, 39 kilometres Bodo – Bonny road with bridges across Afa, Opobo and Nanabie creeks, route 430 in the state.
Fadire stated that though, there are challenges such as the issues of compensation and youth restiveness affecting the slow paste f work in the Bodo Bonny communities, he however, commended Julius Berger for the progress they have made within a short period of time. He assured the Minister that as soon as those bottlenecks are removed, the contract will deliver on scheduled.
The Minister also inspected the pilot phase one construction of the National Housing Programme (NHP), the second in the history of the nation under President Mohammadu Buhari in Benin City, Edo State, Asaba in Delta State, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State and Cross Rivers State respectively.
Shehuri noted that with the construction of these affordable mass housing estates across the country, the present government has deliver on its campaign promise of bridging the housing deficit in the country, created thousands of jobs for our teaming population and generated wealth.
The NHP projects nationwide have reached advance stages of completion and will be due for commissioning in the first quarter of next year, stressing that the mass housing estate are for all interested illegible Nigerians.
The Minister assured that the processes of the second phase will soon commence in all the states that have provided the ministry with land.
