FG charges video tech. stakeholders on more investments, jobs

Minister of State Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb. Mariam Katagum has challenged stakeholders in the area of video technology in Nigeria to explore ways of creating more investment and job opportunities via the advancement in video technology standards.
Katagum said the ministry was willing to support the active participation of Nigeria in international standardization programmes being coordinated by SON to ensure that the nation continues to desire optimal benefits there from.
Speaking at the symposium organised by the Standards Organization of Nigeria, (SON) to mark the 2019 World Standards Day, the Minister noted that advances in video technology as a modern medium of expression has changed the world.
“It has revolutionized entertainment, connecting friends and families across the globe, enriching our communication experiences and enabling major improvements in medical care and education.
“The advent of the global village has redefined international standards development and provided ample opportunity for nations to leverage on positive developments across the world; interact at a much faster rate than hitherto and enjoy the benefits of international standardization.
Themed: “Video Standards Create A Global Stage”, this event which is usually marked on the 14th of October every year, also goes with various activities to bring home to stakeholders, the message of standardization across different sectors of the economy around the world.
Welcoming the participants, Director General/Chief Executive, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Aboloma said: “As your representative in the international standardization bodies namely, the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO); the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), we shall continue to explore means of ensuring the active participation of Nigerian stakeholders in standards development, review and implementation in line with international best practice.
“I wish to use this opportunity to reiterate our call to all Nigerians to join the Quality Vanguard by promoting self-regulation, demanding for quality at all times and saying something to SON every time you see something unwholesome.
“I therefore call on others to please join the efforts to improve the life of Nigerians through standards and quality assurance initiatives and activities”.
