FG begins work on 110.63km deplorable Sapele- Eku- Agbor road

The deplorable state of Sapele- Eku-Agbor road in Delta State, spanning about 110.63km in length is currently undergoing massive construction works by the Federal Government.
This is after government paid a compensation of N125million d for the damages of property and economic crops to owners.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the South South Director, Federal Highway, Engr Godwin Eke said that many issues were attached to the construction works as the road project was awarded in 2015 adding that actual work started in 2017 with a Completion period of thirty months under President Muhammadu Buhari administration, elapsed with another thirty months period taken again for its Completion subject to the availability of funds.
But the Deputy Project Manager of CCC in Charge of Sapele- Eku- Agbor section one, Been Q1 Guangming and the Federal Controller of works, Delta state, Engr Jimoh Moshood Olawale explained that thirty months was provided to complete the project works adding that funds would soon be available for the project
Engr Olawale said that the Sapele Eku Agbor road dualization was awarded at the contract sum of N68.8 billion adding that work did not start on the road until mobilization fee was given to the construction company with initial period of thirty months to complete the Job, stressing that the unsuitable soil had to be evacuated first before re- filling could take place and another subsequent work achieved.
The community Liasion Officer and Legislative Officer from Amukpe Sapele to Agbor, Mr Blessing Omanete Commended the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Works for returning to site, adding that through the local content policy , some qualified indigenes were employed as drivers, artisans, loaders while those dealing on road construction materials such as cement, granites and stones are well patronized.
Investigation revealed that 56 cases of accidents were recorded under the 2015 period while eighteen persons were feared killed on ghastly auto crash as a result of the deplorable state of the road as residents of the communities however expressed happiness at the ongoing works while urging the contracting firm to complete the project to specifications.
