Federation Cup: Enyimba survives Sokoto scare

Newly appointed Technical Adviser of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba, Khadiri Ikhana has hailed non-league club side Sokoto North Local Government for giving his team a scare in the round of 64 of the ongoing Federation Cup decided on Wednesday the FIFA Goal Project, Abuja.

The non-league Sokoto North side almost caused an upset but for the experience of Enyimba players who scored three late goals to take the defending champions through to the next round.

Sokoto North opens scoring in the 41st minute through a Shamsu Tanko strike which set shivers to the spine of Enyimba bench led by Ikhana who was playing his first match as the Technical Adviser.

But fatigue set in for the Sokoto team towards the end of the match when the Ramadan fast took toll on them and lacked stamina and speed they displayed in the first half of the match. Only then did Enyimba rise up to the occasion when they got the equalizer through Uche John through a spot kick in the 84th minute.

Bashir Abdulraheem scored the second goal in the 89th minute while Sokari Kingsley scored the winner in the 90th minute.

Enyimba handler Ikhana showered encomiums on Sokoto North players after the match, “The Sokoto team really displayed quality. I was really impressed with their performance in this match but my team was able to win this match through experience. We dislodged the Sokoto North due to experience. We will continue to work hard to move the Club forward”, Ikhana disclosed.
