In furtherance to efforts at actualizing the transformation agenda of the present administration to make the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) one of the top twenty cities in the world, the FCT Administration is set to develop a multi-billion Naira ultra-modern shopping Mall in the heart of Garki District, Abuja.

According to the administration, the shopping Mall which will be located right in front of Gark Model Market boasts to be one of the best shopping destinations in the city of Abuja.

Also, the proposed Mall which is a 6 floor building covering about 7000 total floor area is designed to be a fully air- conditioned shopping environment with multi-level/basement parking facility, retail shops and eateries.

Others include banking Halls, elevators/escalators, state of the art security and surveillance system etc, to make shopping, a pleasant experience.

However, ahead of the official ground breaking- ceremony to be performed by the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, the site was on Monday, handed over to the project contractor, Messrs Lubell Nigeria Ltd with a mandate to deliver the project within 85 weeks.

Speaking during the contract- signing ceremony, the Managing Director, Abuja Markets Management Limited (AMML), a subsidiary of Abuja Investments Company Limited (AICL), Ailhaji Abubakar Usman Faruk, said the FCT Administration embarked on the project, in line with the transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Administration.

He noted that the project was conceptualized to satisfy the need for a one- stop shopping hub for the residents and visitors of the city, especially the Garki residents.

“It is located at an already boisterous Garki Model Market with modern functional facilities, the latest of which is the automated tolling system.

“It only required the development of an ultra-modern shopping mall such as this to guarantee that all of Abuja residents’ shopping needs are met in one place”, he said.

He therefore called on private investors, corporate bodies and Abuja business community to take advantage of the project, which according to him will provide abundance opportunities like no other commercial centre in Abuja.

On his part, the Managing Director of Lubell Nig Limited (the project Contractors), Arc Yunusa Yakubu, promised to bring the company’s wealth of experience and expertise to bear on the development of the project towards actualizing the goals of the FCT Administration.

Also, the Consultants -Associated Design Consultants led by its Executive Director Mr. Yusuf Shawulu (FNIQS) commended the FCTA for conceptualizing the project pledging to work with the contractor towards its delivery.

Peoples Daily reports that though Garki is one of the oldest districts in the Federal Capital City, it is yet to enjoy the presence of any modern shopping Mall, unlike other districts.
