Women and youths in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been urged to demonstrate their commitment to nation’s building, by embarking on a door-to-door campaign, in order up issue based enlightenment of eligible voters in the forthcoming general elections.
This call was made by stakeholders, who spoke yesterday at FCT All Progressives Congress (APC) Women and Youth Town Hall meeting at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.
Speaking at the event, fomer Plateau state Deputy Governor, Mrs. Paulen Tallen, who represented the Wife of Nigeria President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari strongly called on women especially the youths to ensure that their vote is counted as part of the collective quest for next level of development in the society.
Urging the women to be prayerful and resolute to ensure peaceful elections, she said gone are the days when money is shared to women during elections, saying this time around, it’s issue based campaign.
According to her, President Muhammadu Buhari’s legacy so far is unprecedented, therefore the need to support him to take the developmental strides to the next level.
She therefore urged FCT women and youths to embark on a door-to-door campaign, so as to ensure that from top to bottom it’s APC candidates who get to be elected.
Also speaking, FCT Minister, Malam Muhamad Musa Bello, said women and youths remain very critical to the development of the society, hence the need for them to actively participate in the process of electing their leaders in the FCT and country at large.
The minister opined that it is the duty of stakeholders to support Buhari who has finished laying the foundation is ready for the building to start from the 17th of February after the elections.
In her welcome remarks, FCT APC Women leader, Mrs Hailmary Aipoh, noted that 52 per cent of women are voters, hence the need to engaged them in the process.
She disclosed that no fewer than 2,000 women and 500 youths were mobilised to the town hall meeting, from the six FCT Area Councils.
“The meeting is all about women clamouring and soliciting for vote for president Buhari/Osinbajo and all APC candidates in the FCT .
“We are gathered to enlighten the women and to reassure them that their vote is important and should come amass to vote for the FCT minister has done perfectly well.
“Look at infrastructures, he is a silent operator, he is excited when it comes to women matter, because he knows that the women are the people that really vote. We leaving a legacy for our children’s children,” she said.
