The FCT Sports Department has promised to sponsor Fosla Academy ahead of this year’s Shell Cup National Zonal Play-off.
The FCT Director of Sports, Mrs Dilichukwu Onyedinma stated this while addressing journalist over the weekend.
She emphasized the need for the FCT Sports Department and the Secondary Education Board to play their individual roles in supporting Fosla Academy to represent the FCT effectively in the play-off.
She added that the sports department had given incentives to the winners of last year’s female Principals Cup, GGSS Karshi stressing that since the competition was held in collaboration with the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, the union is expected to also motivate the champions.
“We are working towards supporting Fosla in that capacity. I will be having a meeting with the proprietor of Fosla Academy. He wrote to us that he is going to come for a meeting and what you just asked now is going to be discussed. They are representing FCT so after the meeting we will be able to sponsor them even if it is not in everything. Education department also has a role to play because this is a school even though it is a private school now.
They are all under the management of the education department because before any school stands, they get approval from the education board. I know they have a role to play and we on our own side will try as much as possible to play our own role to make sure that they represent FCT well and come back triumphantly.
“The Female Principals Cup was done in conjunction with ANCOPSS (All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools). ANCOPSS and FCT Sports hosted the competition together and some incentives were given to them inform of jerseys and football.
However, I do not know what ANCOPSS did extra but as far as I know, we provided trophies, footballs; we also gave various individual awards such as the Most Valuable Player, best goalkeeper, and the rest of them.
The female Principals Cup was a huge success and I believe that this year’s edition will be more glamorous and successful.” she said
Recall that last year, Fosla Academy emerged champions of the FCT Principals Cup after defeating GSS Kabusha by alone goal in the final played at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Abuja.
As champions, Fosla will represent FCT in the National Zonal play-off which is expected to start in June.
