The Executive chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo, has said that Agriculture is one of the cardinal agenda of his administration.
Sabo, who stated this while delivering his speech on the occasion of free distribution of fertilizers to farmers on Tuesday in Kuje.
He said his administration would remain committed to reviving the agricultural economy of Kuje as well turning it into the agricultural hub of the FCT and Nigeria at large.
He said: “What the present administration is doing today is not new, what is new is the mode of distribution which is free to the core farming populace of the Area Council as a way of galvanizing farmers to produce more.
Beneficiaries should, however, note that the Council will not tolerate re-sale of these fertilizers by any of you”.
His words: “ The efforts of the Federal Government towards the upliftment of agricultural sector is not only commendable, but will help farmers and intending farmers to key into the modern standard of farming that will yield bumper harvest and in turn add to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)”.
He said the present administration of the Area Council would intensify efforts to purchase tractors to be hired out to farmers as soon as funds are made available.
Equally, he pointed out that his administration would continue to provide a conducive environment for farmers in the area, most especially in the field of modern techniques of farming.
Sabo, therefore, advised the beneficiaries of fertilizers to use it for the motive it was made for, while calling on them to give the necessary support to the administration of the Council.
In his welcome address at the occasion, the Head of Department of Agriculture in the Council, Dr G. Abbah, thanked the Council Chairman of Kuje for giving the necessary attention to Agriculture as it deserved in the area.
On his part, the Chairman of PDP in the FCT, Hon. Ibrahim Biko, expressed happiness for the good work the Chairman was doing in Kuje.
