The Board of the Federal Capital Territory Football Association has approved the creation of an elite Football League to be known as the FCT SUPER LEAGUE, with 12 teams approved to participate in the inaugural edition.
Rising from their 2017 end of the year meeting held in Abuja, the Board said that the League will be played on a weekly basis to keep participating teams busy all through the season, with the Champions representing FCT in the Nigeria Nation Wide League Division 3 play-off.
In a Communiqué signed by the Association’s Vice Chairman, Patrick Ngwaogu, a second tier League was also created to be known as the FCT DIVISION 1 LEAGUE with two teams gaining promotion to the Elite division at the end of every season with the same two teams relegated from the Elite League.
The Board also approved the creation of an Inter Area Councils Girls’ Primary Schools Football Competition amongst other innovations announced to boost football activities in the FCT.
This is expected to facilitate the development of Women Football and further expand the FCT Women League which started in 2017.
The FA appealed to Corporate bodies to embrace the activities of the Association whose primary goal is grassroots development.
