In order to reduce the rate of unemployment in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), authorities of Area Councils have been urged to strengthen collaboration with the FCT Administration.

Alayande, who at the FCT Ultra Modern Youth Support Centre, Nyanya-Abuja, revealed that the centre, since its establishment in 2013, has trained over 5,000 youths in various skills acquisition
programmes.
She however frowned that the administration has not been to empower many of the graduates, due lack of funds.
She said: “We want to partner with the area councils in the FCT, so that when we train these youths in various skills acquisition programmes.

She noted that such a partnership would reduce the rate of youth unemployment in the Territory.
She noted that that it is not enough for the area councils to send these youths to the centre for training in skills acquisition programmes, without giving them the necessary tools to begin their trade at the end of their training.
The Acting Director however, disclosed that in past years, the administration has been able to empower some of the trainees, at the end of their training, adding that the councils should assist to enable all the trainees benefit from the package.
Alayande explained that at the moment the centre is involved in a two-week training of 20 youths, who were invited from the six area councils of the FCT, on welding and fabrication, adding that at the end of their training they must have acquired the basic skills for their trade.
“We trained them in household things, such as industrial things, protective and security gadgets, like burglary proofs.
