Following the outcome of the governorship election in Ekiti state at the weekend, the Niger state governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party to beat and that the landslide victory was a reflection of what the 2015 general election will look like.

The Niger state governor, who made the declaration in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Israel A. Ebije, also congratulated Ayo Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his electoral victory over the incumbent, Kayode Fayose of All Progressive Peoples Party (APC).

He said the victory was well deserved adding that the election was free and fair, mirroring the true desire of the people to welcome back PDP rule in Ekiti.  He also added that the Ekiti example should serve as an agenda of what the opposition will face in the next general election.

Aliyu, while urging contestants in the election to join hands and work with the newly elected governor, said the most important factor is to ensure that the interest of the state is paramount over individual ambition.

“Let me congratulate Ayo Fayose for his well deserved victory. From what observers said about the election, it is indeed free and fair and a reflection of the peoples interest in the PDP as a party that can deliver properly on dividends of democracy”

“Let me also appeal for calm especially for those who have lost out in the contest. They must see the wish of the people as the will of God. They must therefore in the interest of the people and desire to move the state forward work with the Fayose. I am indeed glad a contestant in the spirit of true democratic practice has congratulated the winner already”

He also congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives who he said worked assiduously in making the entire election a success. He urged them to continue in that direction as it will make election of in Nigeria a true reflection of the wishes of the people.
