A group, the Family Health Advocacy in Nigeria Initiative, (FHANI), has called on the Kaduna State Government to as matter of urgency pay all contractors that supplied Family Planning consumables to the state immediately.
The group stated this during an advocacy visit to the Permanent Secretary, Kaduna State Ministry of Health and Human Resources Shehu Mohammed Makarfi yestetday.
The group who spoke through its Secretary, Iliya Kure, said withholding money of contractors is becoming embarrassing to the state, and may affect future supplies of FP consumables.
The advocacy which was supported by the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria, (PPFN), also called for immediate procurement of consumables for distribution to all the 711 service delivery points in the state for more patients to benefit.
Mr. Kure advised that the state could take from the Save One Million Lives Fund to make the procurement.
In his response, the Perm Sec.Shehu Mohammed Makarfi said the state is working round the clock to ensure that money owed contractors are settled.
He added that his Ministry is working with the State Drug Management Agency (DMA) to ensure prompt settlement of contractors so that it would not affect the next quarter procurement.
He called on all agencies to present their released codes to the Ministry so that it can help in fast tracking early cash release.
He commended the FHANI and PPFN team for their unwavering support to the FP program in the state, saying the State Government will always partner with them.
