The Zamfara State Police Command has succeeded in the arrest of a notorious fraudster identified as Ibrahim Mohammed Maigandi, an indigene of the state claiming to be the real Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Nagogo.
Parading the suspect at the Police Headquarters in Gusau, the state capital yesterday, the real Police Commissioner, CP Usman Nagogo who was represented by the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Shehu Muhammad said, the suspect was arrested after collecting the sum of 1.8 million naira from Senator Lawali Hassan representing Zamfara West in the Senate.
According to him, “The duped senator, sequel to a report received by the Police, he received a text message from unknown person through MTN mobile number which reads ‘08138888205 impersonating himself as Zamfara Commissioner of Police requesting Sallah gift upon which he asked his Personal Assistant to transfer the sum of 200,000 naira into a communicated bank account.”
The Commissioner further told journalists that, “Thereafter, the same person called the Senator again and made an offer for him, that being the Commissioner of Police in the state, he was given nine slots for Cadets ASPs and another seven for Cadet Inspectors but, he should pay the sum of 2 million naira for that offer”.
“Following this development, the senator had again, directed his PA to transfer the sum of 1.6 million naira into the bank account of the said acclaimed Commissioner of Police being part payment of the earlier requested amount.”
CP Nagogo said, the investigation is ongoing after which the suspect will be charged to court, adding that, his Command has recovered a Mercedes Benz vehicle in possession of the suspect which is also suspected to be stolen as it bears no registration number and particulars.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner urged the general public in the state to continue to cooperate with the Police and other sister security agencies in efforts to wipe out disgruntle elements in the society for sustainable peace and security in the state.
