The Director of Best Yield Agro Services Ltd, has Fredrick Akpatason, has urged every family to embark on immediate home Cell farming.
Cell farming is a building, any of the structures used in farming operations, which may include buildings to house families and workers, as well as livestock, machinery, and crops.
He made the call on Wednesday at a One-day interactive session titled:
Journalism, Agricultural Development for Food Security, organised by the League of Veteran Journalists, Edo Council.
Akpatason who was the Chairman on the occasion, noted that in every home, family must have enough food to eat.
He called on the government to provide large scope of participation to encourage farmers, adding that home cell farming is the key at family level, not mechanized farming.
“It is easy for everybody to go into plantain farming, as one can began to harvest in six months.
“There are suckers and sapling prepared for planting available for homes. “We are also working on yams,” he said.
The Chairman on the league of Veteran Journalists, Elder Josiah Obadigie, called on the government to put incentives in place that would attract youths into Agricultural development, particularly in Edo.
He said the food produced in Nigeria should feed Nigerian first before outsiders.
“The survival of the nation depends on the attitude towards agricultural development.
“For the nation to stay out of poverty and hunger, there ought to be standardized modules for the rectification of issues germane to ameliorating people suffering.
On his part, Comrade Roland Osakue, the state NUJ Chairman, said when there is food in the nation, no one would think of stealing.
He said Agriculture is very important in the society, urging every journalist to embrace it. (NAN)x
