A former staff of Skye Bank Plc, Mrs Funmilayo Olowu, yesterday urged the National Industrial Court in Ibadan to order the bank to pay her N7.2million as damages for alleged unlawful termination of her appointment.
Olowu, who was represented in court by her counsel, Omasan Brikinn, told the court that the bank unlawfully terminated her appointment on Jan. 31, 2008 without giving her any notice.
She urged the court to order the bank to pay the claimant the sum of N5.2 million being the six months salary in lieu and the sum of N2million for damages.
But the counsel to the defendant, Judith Ebiteh, told the court that the bank had given the claimant one month salary in lieu of notice.
Ebiteh, however, said she could not ascertain the actual date the money was paid.
She urged the court to strike out the case, arguing that the claimant was not entitled to any payment.
Justice Edith Agbakoba adjourned the case till June 28 for adoption of written addresses of counsel. (NAN)
