Former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif, on Thursday paid a surprise visit to the national secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), fueling speculations that he might be gunning for the chairmanship of the party, to replace Adams Oshiomole.
Sherrif arrived the APC headquarters around 4.15pm, went upstairs to the chairman of the caretaker committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni on the fourth floor, came down with the interim chairman and drove off immediately.
Though it is not clear where both leaders went to, but there are speculations that they drove to the Presidential Villa, where they would meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, or other Presidency officials to discuss affairs of the party and what comes up during the extraordinary convention of the party.
The former Borno Governor did not spend up to 15 minutes in national Secretariat of the APC before leaving in separate black tinted G-Wagon Mercedes Benz with the interim chairman of APC. Though he did not speak officially to journalists, but he exchanged bantters with few media people around before leaving.
Recall that after his turbulent stint in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sheriff has not been seen for a long time in the affairs of the ruling APC though he left the PDP after the Supreme Court sacked him as the chairman of PDP while the party leadership crisis lingered then.
Before he joined APC again, Sheriff was the National Working Committee chairman of the PDP from 16 February 2016 until the National Convention, when he was removed and replaced by Ahmed Makarfi. On the 26th of April 2018.
