A former Liberian ex-international football star, Moses Andre was among four other robbers, who were paraded for robbery and car snatching by the Lagos State Police Command.
Earlier on, the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Kayode Aderanti, while briefing crime reporters at his Ikeja office, had revealed that consequent upon some reports of cases of armed robbery involving car snatching, he mandated the officer-in –charge Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Abba Kyari, a Superintendent of Police (SP), to go all out after the hoodlums.
Speaking further, he said, through what he described as the deployment of cutting-edge technology, intensive surveillance and aggressive patrol, the suspects who specialized in snatching and selling of cars were apprehended.
Aderanti further revealed that fifteen previously stolen vehicles by the syndicate were also recovered at different locations including Abuja, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Benin City stressing that one Abayomi Adebayo who is notorious for changing of engine and chassis numbers of stolen vehicles was also picked up by the Police, and that instruments used for forging these fake engine/chassis numbers, including already prepared engine/chassis numbers were recovered from the suspect.
The cars recovered, according to Aderanti, are fifteen in number, and includes nine Toyota, two Mitsubishi, two Nissan and two Honda cars.
The Police boss reiterated his Command’s resolve to engage the issue of crime and criminality holistically, even as he assures residents of a crime free state
In a chat with Moses Andre, who claimed to have played the AFCON 2010 qualifier match between his country and Angola, he said he had served as the gang’s driver and that his job stops as soon as he delivers the stolen car from the scene of robbery to one Israel Nana, another member of the gang who hails from Ghana.
