Former Governor of Kogi state, Abubakar Audu, yesterday recommended the incumbent Governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, for re-election in 2015 general elections.

Abubakar made the assertion at Akwanga, headquarters of Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa state, at a rally convened by Ta’al Progressives Forum of Nasarawa North Senatorial District, to call on Governor Al-Makura to re-contest for the governorship position of the state on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abubakar Audu, who was chairman of the occasion, affirmed that the call became necessary considering Al-Makura’s dynamism in governing the state in the past three and half years, which are attested by the holistic development in the state.

He said “The incumbent governor has within the shortest period in office, been able to provide some basic infrastructures that are either lacking or totally absent such as health facilities, roads constructions, modern markets and model hospitals.

“The governor has been able to make drugs available to all health centers in the state by evolving a Drugs Revolving Scheme, giving free medical treatment to the aged, awarding scholarships to disabled persons to foreign countries as well”, he added.

The former governor commended Al-Makura for maintaining peace in the state, despite the recent skirmishes that had bedeviled the state by the handwork of the proscribed Ombatse Milia group which he was able to nip it in the bud.

He however showered accolades on the governor for escaping an impeachment saga perpetrated by the state lawmakers, even as he said the governor’s escape was purely based on his tract records and his prudent usage of the meager resources of the state.

Meanwhile, he enjoined APC supporters in the state to closely monitor, protect their votes from the polling centres down to the collation centres, until the results would be finally declared.

Earlier, chairman of the Ta’al Progressives Forum of Nasarawa North Senatorial District, Engbu Affiku, said their decision to call on Governor Al-Makura to recontest in 2015 was basicall on his people oriented programmes and achievements recorded in the senatorial district.
