Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo State 2016 Governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has explained the reasons for the apprehension over his plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said since he announced his resignation from PDP to join APC, some people from both political parties have being throwing stones at him.
Ize-Iyamu who disclosed this at an interactive session with journalists at the Weekend in Benin, said, he has no intention to retaliate, with a caution that he is not a politician with shot courage.
He frowned at the action of the unnamed individuals, describing his return to APC as homecoming and a salvage mission in the ruling party.
Ize-Iyamu who said he never knew that his resignation would generate controversies, said his return to the party he joined to build.
“Some place I left, there are some people there who are not happy and who are tempting to throw stones. But, I will not throw back at them. Even where I am also coming to, there are some people who are also apprehensive. And because of that too, either directly or indirectly, they are also throwing stones. I also do not intend to throw stones.
“So, you can see that I am in a very precarious position. I am just moving people are throwing stones at me and I do not want to retaliate.
“Moving from PDP to the APC, I thought it will not generate controversy because what I was doing is not something new in the political landscape. But, it generated a lot of controversies.
“Our people have asked me if there is any quarrel, and I told them that if there is any quarrel, I will not even talk about it. There was not quarrel.
“…It is simply a matter of interest and what you want to achieve…There are many reasons, and so the constitution gives us the right of association.
“So, I have my reasons for moving to the APC and many of you also know that moving to that party was also like a homecoming for me because I am found that party in this State and the Country. So, it is not as if I am going to a new place.
“And I have chosen to be part of those who will solve the problems, make it more attractive and better for all of us.
“The most important thing is that I am going to APC to escalate the crisis there. I am going there by the grace of God to add value. I will go and strengthen the party.
“I will go and ensure that the party is well connected to those at the grassroots. We will encourage government to do their best and that itself is one of the primary purpose of why we are in politics”, he said.
