From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna

The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to be at the vanguard of protecting vital equipment and installations from the activities of vandals, in order to ensure optimal electricity supply in Nigeria.

Etsu Abubakar stated this at the weekend, when the officials of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria (Disco) paid him a courtesy call at his Wadata Palace, Bida, saying the vandalism of equipment and installations were counter-productive.

He appealed to Nigerians to stop the act of assault on electricity company officials during the course of performing their lawful duties , especially during its revenue drive.

He also urged visiting officials to ensure adequate and quality power supply to the people, as part of strategy of gaining the customers appreciation and support.

Yahaya enjoined the officials to ensure that the problem associated with poor electricity supply to Bida town and its environs is addressed promptly, to bring succor to the people.

The Team Leader of the Task Force of Abuja Disco, Alhaji Garba Madani, assured the monarch that a team of engineers are presently working round the clock to fix the problem at the Bida substation toward restoring normal power supply.

He stated that the company had purchased new equipment and fittings toward improving power supply to its numerous customers in Kogi , Niger, Nasarawa and the FCT.

Madani urged the customers in Bida and its environs to desist from the act of molesting officials in the course of their revenue collection as such act would affect power supply in the area.

He told the monarch that the present poor electricity supply in the country was due to the acts of vandalism of gas pipeline and the drop in water at some of the hydro dams in the country.

He commended the Etsu Nupe for his steadfast support to the organisation and its staff toward the discharge of their duties and call for further understanding and support.
