From Ahmad Mohammed, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Umar Sa’idu has assured that the era of leaving veterans to watch from the fence will be over under the current leadership of the union.
Comrade Umar Sa’idu gave the assurance recently at the inauguration of the two ex-officials of the council held at the conference hall of the NUJ Press Centre Bauchi.
The NUJ Chairman said the move is to enable the new officials of the council to tap from the experiences of the veterans in an efforts to move the union to a greater height.
He explained that, the decision to appoint the two ex-officio who will be part of the State Working Committee of the Council is a constitutional mandate just like the constitution of the advisory committee.
According to him, the two ex-officio were selected based on their outstanding contributions towards the development of the union in Bauchi.
“ During our campaign visits to various chapels, we have promised to carry along our Senior colleagues especially the former chairmen of the council and media executives in order to gain from their experiences.
“ I am happy to inform you that, seven out of the nine former leaders that are still alive have promised to work hand in hand with the present exco for the progress of the union.”
“ I want to remind the appointees that they were not appointed just to add the number of SWC members, but to use their experiences and contribute towards moving the profession forward, we hope you will not misuse the trust given to you.”
The State NUJ boss reaffirmed the readiness of the present executives of the council to ensure adherence to the provisions of the union’s constitution for not only to record successes, but to consolidate on the gains of the previous leaders.
