The Abuja Environment Protection Board (AEBP) said it has concluded plans to hand over waste evacuation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT ) to its license private contractors, in order to ensue effective management of the environment.
According to the AEPB Director, Baba Shehu Lawan , who revealed this, during an interactive session with the Estate owners in the FCT , said the aim of the meeting was to fully prepare the estate owners to take up cleaning responsibilities within their estates ,and enforcement of the payment dues.
He noted that in view of the meeting the board had last month with the estates owners and other stakeholders in estates across the city, saying the AEPB will supervise the activities of the contractors.
“This is the second meeting, and that will be final one to be held, before the handing over next month (November), the boar will be working with all licensed contractors, which are going to be recommended to be cleaning wastes generated in 84 estates of the FCT.
In their separate interviews, the Estates owners, who attended the meeting, expressed their willingness to buy into the initiative.
They however, said the AEPB should make sure the enforcement of payment of environmental levies from all the residents in all the 84 estates, as some estates owners and occupants would not adhere to the rules guiding the cleaning environment.
