The FCT Ministerial Committee on assessment of the destructions caused by hoodlums in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests has described the development as unprecedented and shocking incident.
Making this assertion, when the committee visited affected spots in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC and Bwari Area Council, chairman of the committee, Alh. Abbas Idriss assured the committee would compile a comprehensive report and forward to the FCT Minister to do the needful.
Idriss, who doubles as Director General, FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), said : “Setting an Islamic school ablaze was to complicate the crisis by giving it a religious colouration, but we thank God, it was contained. We pray this never happens again.
“A lot of Devastation took place on the FCT, it is unprecedented. We thought no life was lost, we are shocked to discover that some lives were lost in Apo and Dutse.”
On the trip was Abdullahi Adamu Candido, AMAC chairman and his Bwari counterpart, John Cabbaya.
Candido who was physically overwhelmed noted that it was “a very bad situation.”
He called on the youths to have a rethink and embrace attitudinal change; “this should never happen again,” he exclaimed.
The committee visited Apo Mechanic where several vehicles were burnt.
One person was said to have been killed in the area.
In Pigba Kassa Junction, one person was also killed while several cars were burnt. Same thing happened in Pigba Sama, where very expensive cars were destroyed and burnt.
In Kubwa NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, food stuff, mattresses and drugs were looted.
Chairs, corps members beds , even windows and doors were vandalised.
Hon. Solomon Oboh, Chairman, FCT Customary Court in Dutse said it was rumoured that three hoodlums were killed by the Police, that angered the looters and I hey stormed the court, broke every door and window, chairs and burnt down all the documents.
The generator house with one big generating plant and two medium sized ones were set ablaze.
On the tour, the committee visited a burnt police station and two buildings belonging Civil Defence were burnt in Dutse Makaranta.
