A governorship aspirant from Bayelsa state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the November 16 election. Dr Franklin Osaisai, has assured that addressing the issue gas flaring in the state will be one of his priorities, if elected.
Osaisai specifically pledged to work with the Federal Government and International Oil Company (IOC) to address the challenge of gas flaring in the state.
The gubernatorial aspirant spoke at the PDP National Secretariat on Monday in Abuja shortly after submitting his nomination and expressions of interest forms.
Osaisai said he would work with federal government and IOC to ensure that gas was harnessed into power for communities in the state to benefit.
According to him. “There is a direct relationship between energy usage and development.
” In that area, what I will do is to first of all partner with relevant organisations, even government to ensure that we have electricity available in all nooks and cranny of the state.” he said.
The aspirant similarly disclosed that he has economic blueprint to harness raw materials and agricultural products in the state to boost its industries.
He further assured that his administration would also create enabling environment to address issues of crime in the state.
Continuing, he said, “It is only in a secured and peaceful environment that you can have good economic activities taking place.
“There are security challenges everywhere, we have our share of it in Bayelsa and what we will do is to partner with relevant security institutions under the federal government and also begin to implement some element of community policing.
“That will mean that every indigene of Bayelsa will have to take responsibility for his or her own environment.
“Again strengthening the security architecture along our river banks and creeks can be achieved by partnering.
“Once we are able to maintain that element of peace and security, business activities will thrive.
“We will be able to create more employment for our teeming youths who finished from universities and then stay at home, because there is no job for them.” he said.
