From Uche Uche, Damaturu

Yobe state governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has commended the peaceful disposition displayed youths in the state by not taking part in the End SARS protest that resulted in the destruction of lives, private and public property.
The governor stated this yesterday on the occasion of stakeholders meeting on peace in the state, which took place at the Banquet hall, government house, Damaturu the state capital.
He pointed out that in the last few days, the country recorded unfortunate and challenging experiences threatening the corporate unity and the very existence of the country in what started as a peaceful protest against the SARS which metamorphosed into violent killings, wanton destruction and massive looting.
He regretted the hijacking of the protests by hoodlums and the negative vices that followed, saying it is highly condemnable and regrettable but happy that youths in the state, and all citizens, did not involve themselves in such condemnable actions.
“Let me specially appreciate our youth for their sense of reasoning and resilience to the challenges of the EndSARS protests. You have individually and collectively done us proud,”the governor stated.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for taking prompt action in disbanding the agency, SARS being the cause of the protest.
He regretted that such early response ought to have brought the protest to an end but unfortunately, the organizers prolonged and lost control of the protest until it was hijacked and assumed the obnoxious, destructive and catastrophic dimension.
Yobe state he said, has suffered so much and for too long from the protracted insurgency that bedevilled the state and the North east in general and so the people cannot contemplate having additional crises and hardships from the violent protests while still battling to resettle, rehabilitate and reclaim means of livelihood for the people.
