From Lawal Sa’ idu Funtua, Katsina
The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq Umar has urged Save the Children to involve children of the poor in its activities.
The emir stated this while receiving management of Save the Children, Katsina field office and some children who paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Daura as part of celebration of the ‘Day of the African Child’.
He noted that the children of the poor need more the assistance of the organization than the children of the elites and the well to do in the society.
“ The children of the emir do not need the support of the organization, equally the children of the wealthy and any person receiving salary does not need your support. Go to the rural areas and support the children of the rural poor,”‘he added.
Umar, however, acknowledged that for long the organization has been supporting communities in his domain in the area of poverty alleviation, health, nutrition and education which he said has helped greatly in raising their economic status.
Speaking, the Save the Children Coordinator of advocacy and community engagement in Katsina, Hajiya Murjanatu Kabir said the Day of the African Child was set aside to attract stakeholders’ attention to the plight of children.
She noted that the aim of the initiative was to engage African children irrespective of their background, color, race or their economic status, adding that the organization was working on another initiative in Sandamu local government area in the emirate.
