The Pankshin Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau on Monday vowed to sanction motorists over overloading and non-use-of drivers’ license.
The Unit Commander, ACC Nnamdi Ikeh-Akabogu, made the threat during a press briefing in his office in Pankshin, in preparation for the command’s forth-coming Ember Months Campaign flag-off in the Plateau Central Zone, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27.
“FRSC is taking nothing to chance, as we will go for drivers, who are fond of indulge in overload and non-use of drivers’ license during the period (ember months).
“This is because it has come to our notice that these two key rules are being deliberately flaunted by motorists in the hinterland at the expense of precious lives of innocent commuters.
“These, we shall resist vehemently and imposed taugh sanctions, ’’ he declared.
Ikeh-Akabogu lamented the unfortunate situation whereby in spite the public enlightenment campaigns being carried out by the Corps, geared toward making the people embrace safety on the highways, they seems to be falling on deaf ears.
He reiterated the resolve of FRSC to ensure the safety of lives and properties of both motorists and commuters on the high ways during the ember months, which he claimed always witness high volume of trafficks.
The Commander, who reminded the general public that “road safery is everybody’s business,’’ solicited for their unalloyed support and cooperation in order to ensure an accident free ember months this year.
On the forthcoming ember months campaign flag-off, the Unit Commander stated that it shall feature motorized rally and distribution of fliers and other educational materials toward sensitizing the driving public.
According to him, the chairman, Pankshin LGA, will flag-off the campaign, with the Plateau FRSC Sector Commander, Mrs Patricia Emordi, as the Special Guest of Honour, Provost FCE Pankshin, Dr Amos Cirfa, as Guest of Honour and the Emir of Kanam, Alh Muhammad Babangida, Royal Father of the day.
