Dolphins attacking winger, Emem Eduok and Enyimba gaffer, Kadiri Ikhana, have been named Player and Manager of the League Bloggers Awards (LBA) for October. The duo edged a field of quality players and managers whose input in the month under review did not go unnoticed.
In the player’s award, it was a straight tussle between Eduok and Enyimba’s Mfon Udoh in a shortlist that included Christian Pyagbara and Abu Azeez of Sharks and Warri Wolves respectively.
Eduok and Udoh netted eight goals each in October in which Match Days 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) were under review. As at the end of October, the two players were tied on 20 goals. While Eduok scored two away goals at Akwa United and Bayelsa United, Udoh bettered that feat by finding target thrice on the road – one at Gombe United and two at Nembe City.
But Eduok simply edged his kinsman, Udoh, on points garnered from his six-goal blitz (a double hat-trick) against Nembe City that ensured he set a new individual scoring record in a single match in the top division.
Eduok however credited his LBA Player for October to the support from his teammates and coach. “I’m happy. It’s not easy in the Nigerian league to win such an award. I also dedicate this to my coach and other players. I feel so happy and I am grateful to God,” Eduok said.
Ikhana’s emergence as LBA Manager for October was down to pipping his Nasarawa United counterpart, Mohammed Baba Ganaru, based on the points accumulated by their teams for the month under review. The Enyimba gaffer guided his team to five wins from seven matches including two away successes at Kaduna United (1-0) and Nembe City (2-1), but drew a game at Crown FC and suffered just a defeat in the hands of Gombe United in all of October.
The other nominees for the LBA Manager of the month for October are Ladan Bosso (Abia Warriors), Paul Aigbogun (Warri Wolves) and John Obuh (Enugu Rangers), all fell short in terms of total points amassed last month by their teams.
