Some youths in Edo State on have threatened to retire godfathers in the State Chapter of All Progressives Congress.
The group was drawn from the 18 Local Government Areas of the State, walked through major streets in Benin City bore placards, affirming their support for the leader.
The Coordinator of the concerned Edo youths, Mr. Kelly Okungbowa, said this on Tuesday at the State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalist.
He said the protest in solidarity of the governor, but he alleged gang up against the governor’s second term bid by unnamed godfathers in the State, which prompted the rally tagged “enemies of the Edo people”.
According to him, “As you all are aware, few weeks ago, some enemies of the Edos ganged up against the Governor “Some of us might have heard them on social Media and in the print Media.
“Godwin Obaseki is 4+4. 2020 is non-negotiable. We want to let them know that the things that are happening in Zamfara, Lagos, Ogun, Imo and other states will not happen in Edo State”, he said.
According to him, Governor Obaseki’s work across board has made him friend to the common man in the street, citing example of how the governor He attributed the increase in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from public transport workers popularly called Agbero, from N100 million to N200 million monthly.
He stressed that this prudent management of public funds and accountability do not go down well with some persons, hence they are against his second term bid.
He stated that these dubious politicians want money to be shared among themselves, which the governor does not condole.
“Before now, many of them were using the tax payers money to enrich themselves by building mansions, hotels and factories, and none of them, their workers or followers benefitted from them.
“And before now, the Agbero as popularly called, the IGR they were giving to Edo State government used to be giving N100 million, but I am glad to announce to you that today Edo State government is getting over N200 persons from monthly IGR.
“So, we do not want us to back to go back to where we are coming from”, he said.
Recall that some members have been had a running battle with some members of APC over alleged high-handedness.
