The free medical outreach flagged-off at the weekend by the Management of Edo University, Uzairue, Edo State has recorded upsurge of rural dwellers who have shown an uptick in various ailments.
In the light of the above, the Management of the institution has scale up effort to mitigate the challenges by partnering with over 30 specialist doctors and the Central Hospital, Auchi for support during the second outreach.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor while delivering his goodwill message said the medical outreach been undertaken by the College of Medical Sciences is part of the university’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to give back to the society and Communities in the State.
He also recalled some of the modest achievements made by the ivory tower including the ongoing state-of-art Edo University Teaching Hospital project that will soon be completed.
Aluyor explained that in a bid to meet up with the immediate need of Clinical training of Medical students of the University, the Management of the institution, entered into an agreement to use the Stella Obasanjo Hospital and Central Hospital as Teaching facilities until project is completed and ready for use.
He further stated that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria during the visit for accreditation has given approval to the Medical students who are in their 500 level to sit for the MBBS part 2 exams in the field of Pharmacology and Pathology.
The State deputy governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu who flagged-off the medical outreach, assured of the government committed to the welfare and security of the people through the provision of quality healthcare services for a period of one week to the people.
The deputy governor who was represented by a former Chairperson of Etsako East Local Government Area in the State, Mrs. Benedicta Ebuehi, commended the institution for its accomplishments and pledged his support towards realizing the set goals.
