The health of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member in Edo state House of Assembly, Hon. RazaqMomoh may have deteriorated, just as a family source said plans were underway to take him to Europe for medical treatment.
Momoh, member representing Etsako West constituency got a close shave of death on Tuesday night by yet to be identified hoodlums at the legislators’ quarters on Ihama Road in Benin, thereby heightening tension in the state.
The victim, who is currently receiving treatment at the University of Benin teaching hospital (UBTH) had accused a top government official in the state for attempting to eliminate him during last month plenary at the king square, before the incident which has drawn the anger of his kinsmen to accuse security agencies in the state for not doing enough to protect him.
Expectedly, chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Dan Orbih in a statement has condemned the attack and called on the Inspector General of police (IGP) to unmask those behind the alleged assassination on the legislator for immediate prosecution.
“We strongly condemn this bestial attack which is a reflection of the growing desperation of the Oshiomhole APC-led administration in the face of its fast dwindling political support.
The statement adds that: “In a democracy, the right to freedom of association is sacred and must be respected by all.
“We call on the Inspector General of Police to bring to book all those involved in the dastardly act of the near-assassination of Hon. Momoh.
Speaker of the PDP led faction of the state House of Assembly; Hon. Festus Ebea has called for special prayers for his colleagues whom he said have become victim of attack, following the alleged non-tolerance of the ruling party in the state to opposition.
The speaker alleged that some armed men had visited Hon.Momohat the legislator’squarters where they told his wife to inform her husband that their security can no longer be guaranteed.
The wounded legislator was exonerated from alleged kidnapping case early this year, while the case of alleged possession of firearm is still pending in court.
