Edo PDP, APC enter peace pact with Oba of Benin

The Candidate of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Candidate of All Progressives Congress for the September 19, 2020 Governorship election in Edo State as well as two former National Chairmen of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole have entered a peace pact with Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II and his forebears.
The Wednesday morning meeting at Oba of Benin palace, which lasted for two hours, featured the State deputy governor, Hon. Philip Shaibu and Mallam Gani Audu, running mates to PDP and APC candidates.
Also present were; National Vice Chairman of PDP, South South, Chief Dan Orbih and the State Chairman of PDP, Mr. Tony Aiziegbemi.
The factional State Chairman of APC, Col. David Imuse (Rted) and the Secretary APC, Mr. Lawrence Okah, National Vice Chairman of Publicity Council, Mr. Patrick Obahiagbon and Sen. Mathew Urhoghide, representing Edo South Senatorial district, also attended the meeting which was devoid of the traditional breaking of Kola nuts.
Declaring the meeting which started at 10:46.a.m opened, Oba Ewuare II, noted that the forum was neither to apportion blame on anyone nor endorse Candidate of any political party, but to extract commitment from the main actors in the election to prevail on their members and supporters to support a violent free election in the State.
He explained that Edo State has being in the news lately for the bad reasons arising from the provocative utterances by leaders of some political leaders in the State.
Oba Ewuare II, also warned them against taking up arms against the State and lambasted Chief John Odigie-Oyegun for not wadding into the crisis between Governor Obaseki and his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
The traditional ruler, recalled his painstaking fruitless efforts in the past to reconcile the incumbent Governor of the State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki with his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
According to him, “Tell your boys to stop killing themselves…I am not interested in who wins the election. I have sacrificed my franchise. Through, In an entitled to vote Constitutionally.
“It will be contradictory for me to vote for a political party even if it is an open secret ballot”.
He also gave a brief history of how Oshiomhole allegedly imposed Governor Obaseki on Edo people at the twilight of his administration and any objection from him.
Responding, Governor Godwin Obaseki who thanked the monarch for his disposition to peace in this State, assured that he is irrevocably committed to protection of lives and property of the State as the Chief Security officer of the State.
Obaseki, stated that has never let down his guard and will stop at nothing to see that a peaceful, free and fair poll is achieved in the State.
He recalled how some highly placed individuals in the State allegedly forced the State Commissioner of police to release a criminal suspect on Tuesday who was linked to the recent mayhem on PDP supporters in Okpella in Etsako East Local Government Area of the State, describing the alleged culpability of some security agents in the State as unacceptable.
According to him, “I have found myself in a very difficult situation, arising from the incidents of violence in some parts of Edo State”.
“I have no problem with my younger brother, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu”, he said.
