Oredo Local Government Council of Edo State has sued for stiffer sanctions against defaulters of environmental laws towards curbing the spread of Covid-19 pandemic and other infectious diseases.
The Chairman, Task Force on Environmental Sanitation in the Council, Mr Matthew Ikponmwosa Eagle disclosed this while fagging-off evacuation at Osa Market in Benin City, Edo State Capital.
Recall that the State Government had directed Local Councils to relocate traders dealing on food items to public designated public primary and secondary schools compound to pave the way decontamination and fumigation of the markets in the State.
Addressing traders and market women on the need to adhere strictly to Covid-19 protocols, Mr Ikponmwosa, said the Evbareke Jenkins Osunde-led administration in Oredo Council, is determined to keep the Council clean towards preventing diseases in the locality.
In continuation of the exercise, Ikponmwosa who also led a team of health and environmental Departments of the Council to evacuate heaps of refuse at Oba Market at the Kings Square and its environs, urged market women and residents in the Council to utilize designated refuse disposal bins and receptacles not to be susceptible to disease attack.
