Edo crisis: Group berates politicians

From Matthew Aramunde, Lagos

Edo Consultative Forum, a non-partisan Non-Governmental Organization, has taken a swipe at the activities of politicians in Edo State describing it as not only absurd but disgraceful.

Rising from an emergency meeting at its Corporate Headquarters in Lagos, the group expressed its disenchantment at the news filtering out of the state’s Assembly where the men supposedly to be honourable have regrettably thrown decorum to the winds engaging in the drama of the absurd.

Pained by what they say was novel to the state, the National Chairman of the Forum, Mr Gilbert Oboh, said the efforts of the group and that of other groups to help flush out the previous administration that were inept and rudderless seems to be becoming efforts in futility.

“When these crops of politicians were voted into office, the Edo people heaved a sigh of relief because they have for long gone through a tortuous journey in the hands of previous administration. But to our chagrin, the recent development, where these men have turned the State House of Assembly to a theater of war, is not what our people bargained for. It is indeed sad,” Oboh lamented.

The group called on the state governor, Comrade Adam Oshiomhole and the Benin monarch, Omo nOba Ukuakpolokpolo Erediawa to use their positions as fathers of all , irrespective of political and religious affiliations, to wade into the sordid affair and bring the warring parties together once more.

He called on the politicians to play to the rule of the game urging them to conform to procedural rule even at the height of expressing their grievances. He cautioned that pockets of grievances which were not properly managed gave birth to the current insurgency the nation is currently facing with much difficulty.

An the end of the emergency meeting, a communique was issued where it was resolved that the executive of the forum pays a visit to the governor, the Benin monarch and the aggrieved members of the state Assembly.
