By Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Benin

Governor Godwin Obaseki has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to set aside the APC screening Committee panel for the Edo governorship primary election which disqualified him from seeking re-election on the platform of the party.
A personal aide to the Governor said this while reacting to the report in a telephone interview on Friday night in Benin City.
Recall that the incumbent Governor predicted that he may not get justice in the screening panel which was set up by the national Working Committee (NWC) of APC led by Adams Oshiomhole when he appeared before it on Wednesday in Abuja.
The Governor’s aide stressed that findings of the panel report, served the interest of a political jobber who rose from bottom to the apex level of the party on the plank of internal democracy, yet made fruitless attempts to fritter the goodwill of the party in Edo State away for his own selfish reasons.
He also revealed that Obaseki expressed his displeasure on the verdict of the panel in protest letter to President Buhari who is the leader of the party for urgent intervention.
The Official who craved for anonymity, quoted Obaseki has rubbished rumours of his defection from the APC to another political party to seek re-election ahead of the APC primaries in the State despite his disqualification.
The source assured that Obaseki has vowed to resist the undeniable plot by the national Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole knock him out of his party.
According to him, “Governor Obaseki has written formally to President Muhammadu Buhari regarding his disqualification by the screening Committee.
“Oshiomhole’s to push Obaseki out of APC.
“He (Buhari) is the leader of the party. The Governor will not make any move until he hears from the President”, he said.
Before this episode, Oshiomhole singlehandedly sent a letter to the electoral commission informing it that the party had chosen the direct mode for the APC primary even before the NWC met to take a decision.
In the light of the above, leaders of APC Edo State have been invited to an emergency meeting on Saturday in Benin City, to review the decision of the panel report which disqualified Governor Obaseki.
The meeting which is at the instance of the Governor, is expected to reset ties on a range of issues ahead of the party primaries and the September 19, 2020 Governorship in the State.
Addressing party faithful regarding Friday decision of the screening Committee, the factional Chairman of APC in Edo State, Mr Aselm Ojezua, assured that Governor is weighing different options, adding that he will be re-elected Governor of the State.
He urged supporters of the party and loyal members in the State to be calm, watch and pray, assuring that the Obaseki disqualification would be reversed.
