Ebola suspect aboard Air France from Lagos quarantined in Madrid

There was commotion at the Madrid airport in Spain, as a passenger, who had arrived the country from Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport in France to Madrid Barajas yesterday, showed symptoms of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease prompting emergency operations.

Agency report said the passenger, whose is not yet disclose by Spanish authority arrived via Air France flight AF1300 that originated from Lagos was trembling during the flight prompting fear that the passenger

Reports said “the passenger was taken to Madrid’s Carlos III Hospital in an ambulance flanked by a police motorcade, television images showed. The driver was wearing full protective suit and goggles.”

The airline said “the plane would be disinfected and the return flight was cancelled.

The plane, an Airbus A321 with 156 passengers, 2 pilots and 5 crew left Lagos Wednesday night for Madrid Barajas airport.

The spokesperson for the airline in Nigeria, Olufunmilayo Ojesina in a statement, did not however state that the suspect originated from a flight from Nigeria.

She said “Air France confirms that a passenger on flight AF1300 from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Madrid Barajas on 16 October 2014 presented symptoms (trembling) during the flight.

In line with company procedures, the Spanish health authorities were notified by the crew and carried out a medical examination of the passenger on arrival.”

Ojesina however said “As a precautionary measure, the customer in question was taken to hospital by ambulance. The other passengers were able to disembark normally”.

Nigeria is expected to be certified Ebola free by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on October 20.
