Non-governmental organization, Media Awareness Initiative for Hajj (MAIHAJJ) has commended the Saudi Arabian Kingdom for recognizing efforts of Nigeria towards eradicating Ebola disease in the country.

MAIHAJJ noted that the commencement of the issuance of visa to the 2014 Nigerian Intending pilgrims by the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Nigeria is clearly an indication of Saudi government identifying with the efforts of Nigeria towards eradicating Ebola Virus Disease, as the action will assist in making Hajj operation hitch-free.

According to a press statement issued on Monday, signed by its National Chairman, Garba Ubale Dambatta and National Publicity Secretary, Muhd Kabiru Yusuf, commencing the issuance, coupled with the measures put in place to contain the spread of Ebola Virus disease by Nigerian government, the association observed, would raise the hope of 76,000 intending pilgrims who are anxious to perform one of their religious obligations.

“Really, the action of Saudi Embassy in Nigeria in this regard showed that they are satisfied with efforts and measures taken by both government and the National Hajj Commission of Nigerian’s 2014 Medical team with a view to cage the spread of the disease”, it stated.

MAIHAJJ believed that if the Medical Team maintains this position, the 2014 Hajj operation and even subsequent Hajj operation, would be free from any fear of epidemics of any kind. The association reaffirmed.

Similarly, the association said it is confident that the introduction of Saudi Airlines into the airlifting operation of Nigerian pilgrims will open a competition into the policy of Hajj airlift, which will also go a long way in ensuring the best practices in the Hajj exercises.
