Bauchi State Government has begun the distribution of Ebola test kit to all the public and private schools in all the twenty local government areas of the state.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Dr. Abdullahi Dabo, in his office at the weekend in Bauchi.

He said the Ebola test kit purchased by the government arrived the state after the funds for the purchase of the items was approved by Governor Isa Yuguda.

He said the distribution became necessary because the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Bauchi chapter, parents and guardians and school proprietors have been agitating for the provisions of the kit in schools.

According to the chairman, “The state government has trained both public and private school teachers on the signs and symptoms of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD”.

” Each school would be provided with the necessary materials as a preventive measure. Aside from the Thermo scan, gloves, First Aid treatment boxes and soap dispensers that will be made available to every school in the state, government will ensure that all schools in the state have access to water which will help in promoting hygiene habits”

“This Thermo scan will help teachers to check the temperature of students and pupils and any student with temperature above 37.5 degrees centigrade and has some signs like fever, vomiting and diarrhea, the teachers should contact the school principal who will contact the nearby Healthcare Centre, PHC, along with the parents of such student and if such case is beyond the health centre, they should quickly contact the Ebola hotline,” Dabo said.

He said the state government in its efforts to revive the fallen standard of education in the state, has commenced the distribution of texts books to public schools to promote reading culture among students.
