The Super Eagles of Nigeria last night at Cape Town South Africa labored to a goalless draw against a more purposeful Bafana Bafana who dominated the whole duration of the game backed by the ferocious fans who thronged the stadium in their numbers. It was a game that the Eagles put every foot wrong and were lucky to escape with a point as the South Africans rattled the Nigeria’s defence in the latter part of the game. Despite their (Bafana) inexperienced and lack of international exposure, the Mandela boys picked a valuable point that made them occupied the second spot in group A.
With the outcome of the match, Nigeria, the defending champions, are now on the verge of losing out in AFCON 2015 edition to be hosted by Morocco. The Super Eagles will need to win all the remaining games in the group to stand any chance of defending the title they won in South Africa last year.
Congo Brazzaville now occupies the summit of the group with maximum six points from two games. The Congolese had pipped Sudan by two goals to nil in an earlier game played in the country’s capital Brazzaville. South Africa follows with four points while Nigeria is third with one points and Sudan is at the bottom with zero point.
