Suspected drug barons yesterday killed three operatives of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Owode in Yewa-South local government area of Ogun state.
The three NDLEA officials attached to the Ogun state Command of the agency were killed in a savage attack by some unidentified drugs barons in the area.
Peoples Daily reliably gathered that the deceased NDLEA officials had gone to the Owode-Yewa area on a sting operation against the notorious Indian hemp (Cannabis Sativa) dealers suspected to be behind the trading, supply and consumption of the illicit drug in the state and the south-west part of Nigeria, when the armed gang swooped on them.
An eyewitness, who spoke to our reporter, but pleaded anonymity, said the Indian hemp dealers got wind of the planned raid on their hideout by the operatives of the NDLEA and decided to lay ambush for them.
The eyewitness added that the NDLEA officers walked into the ambush and were immediately attacked by the suspected drug barons with guns, machetes and cudgels.
