A 28-year-old driver, Benson Israel of Mpape Village, Abuja, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing 158 bags of cement.
The accused is standing trial on a two-count charge of store breaking and theft.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Simon Emmanuel, told the court that the accused allegedly broke into the store at Idu Industrial Area, Life Camp, Abuja and stole 158 bags of cement.
Emmanuel said that the store belonged to Mr Alabi Emmanuel of Citec Estate, Life Camp, Abuja, who reported the matter to the police on Jan. 27.
He said that the accused, with others now at large, committed the offence, which is punishable under Sections 79, 356 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Judge, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.
Abubakar ordered that the surety, who should be a civil servant not below salary grade level 10, must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case till Feb. 12 for further hearing. (NAN)
