From Ahmed IdrisBirnin Kebbi

There was a mild drama yesterday, at the Kebbi state Government House mosque, when the Chief Security Officer (CSO) attached to the Government House requested the Mayhama local government chairman, Umar U.U. Sumbawa to leave the mosque and go back to his office.

The incident happened on Tuesday, at about 3 p.m., when the chairman entered the mosque with some group of people and decided to turn the mosque to be a venue for political discussion.

The chairman, who happened to be a very close friend to the governor, entered the Government House and started dashing money out to the people; after sharing the money, he decided to enter the mosque and sleep and later eat his lunch within the premises.

It was gathered that the CSO after receiving the information, stormed the mosque and urged the chairman that the place is not the proper place for him to stay, asking, ‘’Can’t you see how people are coming in?

“You cannot also eat inside; this is not your office, you better to go Mayhama, where they elected you as the chairman’’, he admonished.

The CSO further directed our reporter thus: “You better go and interview him; look at him sitting down. Go and ask him questions as to the reason why he is here and is turning the mosque to be his discussion ground’’.

Peoples Daily could recall that the same chairman was accused in a national daily (not Peoples Daily), in February this year, that he has moved the Mayhama local government secretariat to Sokoto state and of not staying in the office, on the grounds that he is a close friend to the Governor.

When contacted, the chairman said he would not speak on the issue.
