Conflicting reports have trailed President Jonathan’s visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his house in Abeokuta, Ogun State yesterday.
An earlier account indicated that the hostility between President Jonathan and former President Obasanjo may have worsened yesterday as the former President was said to have sneaked out of his palatial building in Abeokuta, immediately Jonathan arrived the state capital.
However, it was later reported that the two went into a secret meeting at the hilltop mansion of the former President in Abeokuta, with the meeting said to have lasted well into the evening.
When President Jonathan earlier arrived in Abeokuta, Obasanjo was alleged to have driven out in a black SUV through a private gate in his house.
The two have recently been embroiled in heated controversy surrounding the release of Obasanjo’s latest book, My Watch, which is especially critical of Jonathan’s efforts during this tenure.
The former president had Sunday stormed the venue of the wedding ceremony of President Jonathan’s niece in Abuja, and the feelers were that Jonathan might have decided to pay a thank you visit to Obasanjo for his gesture in attending the wedding.
There were speculations also that Jonathan seized the opportunity of the Abeokuta visit to mend fences with the former president to appeal for his support in February presidential election for which Jonathan is PDP candidate.
