President Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to Nigerian Universities authority not to use their students as agents of destabilisation of the country.
President Jonathan, who stated this while delivering his address at the 30th convocation ceremony of the University of Ilorin held at the auditorium of the university in Ilorin, Kwara state on Thursday noted that his administration is floating a programme to produce three million jobs annually to reduce unemployment in the country.
The President, who was represented by the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, urged the universities management to see the students as children under their care that must be nurtured until they grow before they can contribute to the development of the country.
President Jonathan thanked the students for not allowing negative tendencies to affect their learning process in the university.
President Jonathan said the government has expended over N3 billion through TETFEND and ministry of finance to develop the educational sector.
He assured that his administration would continue to address the development of infrastructure of the universities and the country in general.
In his remark, Kwara state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Saka Onimago commend the university for having a peaceful year 2013/2014 academic session.
He urged the students to remain committed and work hard where ever they find themselves.
