An aspirant for the office of National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party PDP) Mr. Babanagari Suleiman has advised the leadership of the party to refrain from imposition of candidate for any elective office and allow delegates to make their choice without any interference.
He stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna during yesterday.
According to him The PDP has failed to draw any lessons from the murky waters which culture of impunity caused it with attendant misfortune of falling from status of the ruling party to its current state”.
He added that imposition of candidates which is a total absence of transparency in the candidate selection process caused the setback to what the party is facing today as should not be the norm in any of the party activities, he said.
The party stalwart who is from Kogi State said this action of imposition of candidate by the party was the cause of the unceremonious pull out of sizeable group in 2012 convention to form the new PDP in protest against the action of the leadership at that time.
He advised the party to avoid the same situation which caused its defeat in 2015 general election, adding that the same has started to rear its ugly head in some states regarding the party National Elective Convention in December, 2017.
Mr. Suleiman called on the party leadership to intervene on the issue as it affects Kogi State where he is also an aspirant with three other candidates, and allow a level playing ground deepen culture of internal democracy, rather than for some party elders now going round spreading falsehood that a candidate has emerged, he added.
He said all interested parties must be prepared to submit to due process and be willing to accept all transparent outcomes, this is the only way the PDP can regain its lost glory,.
