A lecturer at the California University, USA, Prof. Alex Igbineweka, has called on the management of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to allow the Vice- Chancellors of Nigerian Universities to run certificate courses in Guosa language to enable the students to understand the language properly.
Igbineweka, who made this call in an interview with Peoples Daily education correspondent in Abuja, also appealed to Nigerian Government to join hands with the stakeholders in the education sector to develop the Guosa language in Nigeria.
He said the Guosa language was an authentic indigenous Lingua Franca that connects every ethnic group in Nigeria and the world at large.
His words: “The Guosa language is a unifying Lingua Franca for identity, for culture, for tourism, for national orientation and for scientific innovations”.
He therefore, emphasized that if Nigerian leaders embraced the Guosa language as a National Lingua Franca, it would pave way for national Unity as well as positive change in Nigeria.
It would be recalled that the Guosa Educational Scientific and Cultural Institute Incorporated in partnership with the Guosa language Association of Nigeria had already launched the Guosa language/Guosa dictionary at the University of Abuja.
