Don urges govt to invest more in education

A University Don, Dr Usman Aliyu has urged governments to actively invest in all levels of education to promote availability, affordability and accessibility.
Dr Aliyu who is a Consultant Pathologist at the Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria and ABU Teaching Hospital Shika Zaria stated this when he presented a paper at the 30 years of reunion meeting of Government Science School Toro Old Boys Association Class of 88 in Bauchi State with the theme; 30 years after Toro ; the journey so far in Bauchi over the weekend.
He identified lack of harmony, tribal and religious crisis, vandalism, rustling, poor pay and welfare for teachers as the reasons for low quality of education.
Dr Aliyu said “Poor funding of education sector affects feeding, hostels toilets facilities and incessant crisis and strike are the factors”.
He said government cannot do it alone the old boys need to come in with sacrifice to provide for the young children in the schools.
The National President of the association, Mr Tanimu Umar lamented over decay in the country’s education system which has given birth to low quality of knowledge acquired.
The chairman of the meeting, Alhaji Mohammed Madugu who is also an old boys called on the members to partner the school authority and contribute in the areas of learning materials and infrastructural development of the school.
