Palpable tension has enveloped the Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over plans by some stakeholders to abandon the party for lack of patronage by the national headquarters of the party.
Checks reveals that most of those threatening to abandon the party are not happy with the manner the national headquarters of the party is handling the affairs of the party locally.
Most of them are alleging that the PDP led federal government is having a strange romance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration in the state.
Absence of three state governors in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital during the visit of the north central integration and reconciliation committee namely; Serika Dickson, Bayelsa State governor, Sule Lamido, Jigawa State and Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, was said to have angered most stakeholders.
The secretary of the committee, Alh Yusuf Ayitogo who doubles as the north central vice chairman of the party however defended the state governors saying that they send apologies.
“They send their apologies because they were handling other national assignments”.
The three state governors are members of the North Central integration committee inaugurated by the national headquarters of the party to mediate among aggrieved members .
There are other allegations that most appointments and allocations for the state chapter of the party is cornered by the national headquarters of the party.
A chieftain of the party alleged that 20 Hajj seats allocated to the party by the National Hajj Commission to the state chapter of party was however taken by the national headquarters of the party.
Efforts to get the public relations officer of the National Hajj Commission, Mohammed Mana to comment was not successful but a document obtained by our reporter showed that 36 additional seats were allocated to Nasarawa State with 20 addressed to the state PDP.
The allocation which was dated 18 July 2014 was signed by Dr.Saleh Okenwa on behalf of the chairman of the commission (NAHCON).
When contacted the state chairman of the PDP, Chief Yunana iliya said that the allegation is not far from the truth and blamed some members of the party whom he alleged are behind the misfortune of the party in the state.
“It cannot be far from the truth because complains such as this ones have been coming to me severally.
“I thank God the national chairman looked at it and set up a committee and went round the whole country, I want to believe if the committee submitted its report the national headquarters will look into it.”
Iliya also alleged that some members of the party who are being patronized at the national level come back home to work against the party in the state.
“They claim to be PDP members in Abuja and come back home to be lukewarm, because their brother or cronies is the governor of the state and so work against the party for personal interest”.
